Description

A sculptural lamp made from a mesh network of date palm bamboo strips entwined with raffia ropes, laid with embedded spongy ropes and tissue paper over acrylic bond adhesive.



Background:




One can always see in the subtle glow of the eggs of amphibians, tiny reddish veins crisscrossed in a meshwork of a translucent and oval form. Akwa Nwerre is amphibious in interpretation, taking the egg as a cocoon.

Description
Sculptural lamps made from a mesh network of date palm bamboo strips entwined with raffia ropes, laid with burnt sugarcane reeds and enmeshed with straws, dried twigs and tissue paper over acrylic bond adhesive.

Background:
The rustic adaptation of twigs and pieces of wood into cocoons by some insects show their aggressive and compelling qualities. This fierce arrangement of forms creates a fantasy world of connecting twigs that gives it its essence and uniqueness.

Description

A  sculptural lamp made from a mesh network of date palm bamboo strips entwined with raffia ropes, laid with embedded palm kernel seeds, crushed tissue paper, white feathers, pieces of broken glass and tissue paper over acrylic bond adhesive.


Background:
Zanza is an eccentric formation of a mythical bird in an abstracted interpretation of a swirling birdlike creature. The cocoon here depicts a stage in the formation of a phantom creature which has a semblance of what could be perceived to be known, yet elusive.
